Getting cozy around the fire? These foot warmers are easy to crochet and fun for the holidays. The green yarn makes for extra festive flair. Make them as a gift or make them for yourself, no such thing as cold feet with these.
Time: 2-3 hours (about an hour or hour and a half per foot)
Difficulty level: Easy
Size: One size, universal women’s (fits US sizes 6 to 10)
- Hook: US size H (5.0 mm)
- 2 skeins of yarn
- I used weight category 4 in a rich green
- Yarn needle and scissors
- st: stitch
- sts: stitches
- sl st: slip stitch
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- scd: single crochet decrease
Make a slip knot and ch 32.
Sl st into the first st to make a circle.
Row 1: sc into the back loops (you should have 32 sc sts), sl st to join, ch 1 (to keep circle even).
Row 2-16: sc in each st across row, sl st to join, ch 1.
Row 17: ch 15, count 15 sts then sl st to join chain at st 15, ch 1. Make sure not to twist your 15 chain when joining it. You are effectively creating a gap for the heel of the foot.
sc in each st across the row. You will sc in both loops for 17 stitches and then sc in only the back loop for 15 stitches (your new chain of 15).
Row 18-32: sc in each st across row, sl st to join, ch 1.
Row 33: dc in each st across row, sl st to join, ch 2.
Row 34-36: 2 dc in first st, dc in each st across row, sl st to join, ch 2.
Row 37-56: 2 dc in first st, dc in each st across half (by eye) the row, 2 dc in at, dc in remaining sts across row, sl st to join, ch 2.
You are increasing the circumference of your work by 2 sts every row.
Row 57-60: 2 scd, sc in each st across row, sl st to join, ch 1.
Now repeat this pattern for the other foot warmer!
While crocheting these foot warmers, I had to try in on for size. The worst thing is having only one warm foot while you crochet the thing for the other foot!
Rinse or wash gently when finished. Then press water out with a thick towel. Pull gently into shape and dry flat.
These take no time at all to make and are a great addition to any wardrobe. With the universal size, you don’t have to fret about giving them as a gift. Crocheting with a normal amount of tension, these foot warmers stretch to fit almost any sized foot. If you think it’s too small, have no fear, after washing they definitely have more give.
Imagine matching sets of foot warmers for yourself and all your closest companions with cold feet? How fabulous you’ll look rocking these handmade goods. I feel ready for an 80’s dance off with these on. I love how fashion comes back into style. But did foot warmers ever go out of style?
